Apple fans flocked to the flagship London store to buy the 4G after it went on sale on Thursday.

But there have been complaints an antenna in the lower left corner can become masked when held by a left-handed owner, causing a drop in signal strength.

The glitch emerged in the form of videos of users demonstrating the fault on technology blogs within hours of the new iPhone going on sale in the US.

Apple boss Steve Jobs defended the gadget and declared: ''Just avoid holding it in that way.''

Apple's official advice is to ''avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band''

Lauren Milsom, of the Left-Handed Club, which boasts 90,000 members and represents 10 per cent of the population who are left-handed, branded it a ''design flaw''.

She said: ''It seems ludicrous to suggest that 10 per cent of potential users should be told they have to adopt a less natural hand hold to use this latest technology.

''I would strongly suggest that Steve Jobs employs left-handers in his design and testing team in future, and urgently address this issue to ensure the phone is fit for purpose.

''It is disappointing that a leading innovations and design company like Apple have not considered left-handers in their initial design and testing stages of the 4G.

''Clearly more testing is needed to be certain this is the case, but if so, left-handed potential customers need to be warned that the phone will not work for them, until it can be redesigned to remedy the fault.''

The casing of Apple's latest phone is made of stainless steel, which also serves as its antenna. Apple sells a rubber ''bumper'' that shields the sensitive area as do many other firms.

They have also advised customers to buy a case to stop the antenna being blocked by a hand.

In a statement, Apple said: ''Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas.''

Sony Ericsson has splashed out of colour enhancing two of its existing mobile handsets; the S500 receives a "Steel Silver" paint job, while the W580 splashes in "Velvet Red. Both devices are of a slider design and present solid purchasing decisions within their respected categories.

No official announcement from Sony Ericsson on this as yet, but in keeping with the Swedish-Japanese mobile handset manufacturer they keep to their flashed up names when really plain old Silver and Red would do just as well don't you think? More if and when we hear it.

The price of Apple iPhone 3G as fixed by Apple Inc is $199 for 8 GB and $299 for 16 GB. This requires two-year AT&T contract for U.S. customers. Unlimited 3G monthly data plans for consumers costs $30, on top of monthly voice plans that start at $40.

Steve Jobs had given reasons for sudden dropping of iPhone price.

Steve Jobs - ‘iPhone is so far ahead of the competition, and now it will be affordable by even more customers. It benefits both Apple and every iPhone user to get as many new customers as possible in the iPhone ‘tent’.

Therefore, if same price prevails in India then in Indian Rupees the price for 8GB iPhone 3G will be Rs.8, 000.

However, the statement from Bharti Airtel CEO Manoj Kohli has disappointed iPhone fans in India. Manoj Kohli said that, there is no question of subsidizing the handset in India because US operators like at&t have fixed 25 cents per minute charge rate for iPhone users. As a result, they are able to subsidize the handsets.

In India, the charge is 2 cents a minute. So it’s difficult for service providers like Bharti Airtel or Vodafone to recover the subsidized amount.

In the absence of subsidy the iPhone may cost somewhere around Rs.21, 000. Even though, this price is similar to the price of competing smart phones from companies like Nokia, which have somewhat similar feature.

It would be nice if the iPhone 3G were available at $199 even in India. This would make iPhone fans like you and me very much satisfied and Happy.

The Samsung 780 is gaining popularity as a favorite amongst the business community and those who require something more than just making and receiving calls.

The Samsung SGH-i780 is well made and feels very solid in the hand. The back of the phone is made from soft touch plastic materials, including the battery cover. This makes the back slightly more scratch resistant and resists fingerprints well, unlike the front which is entirely clad with a glossy finish. No doubt the gloss makes the i780 look COOL, but you have to clean it often.

Thinking about its rivals, the first name that comes to mind is Nokia N81. Boasting nice sound quality, similar design and dimensions plus the same OS, the N-series phone will surely put up a fight with this samsung mp3 phone.

The samsung beat 450 pulls off a neat visual trick, and packs a surprising punch for music fans.

The Samsung SGH-i450 is of a rare breed called dual sliders, meaning it opens in more than one direction. In fact, the i450 slides up to reveal a 12-key number pad, and slides down to reveal a, um, what the heck is that? It looks like a wheel, but it doesn’t spin. In fact, Samsung has used touch sensors to make a pad that acts like half a wheel (maybe a bit less than half). To complete the visual metaphor, the user interface uses a circle for feedback that seems to complete the wheel onto the screen of the phone. So, you slide your finger clockwise to increase the volume, and the circle on the screen grows in the same direction. It’s a neat visual trick, and makes the phone cool to use, at first.

Besides the scroll half-wheel, the phone also hides a speaker behind the slide. With audio from Bang & Olufsen’s ICE power technology, the speaker provides surprising clarity to the music.

The phone has a few other impressive features, as well. First of all, it runs Symbian S60, which means that plenty of 3rd party apps will be available. Second, it has a 2-megapixel around back, and a VGA camera up front for video conferencing, which should be no sweat, considering the phone also uses high-speed, 3.6Mbps HSDPA for network access. You can also listen to an FM radio with your own headphones, since the i450 uses a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Internal memory tops out at 35MB, which isn’t much, but the phone will accept microSDHC cards in capacities up to 4GB. The phone connects to headphones and PCs using Bluetooth and USB of the 2.0 variety, including A2DP for stereo Bluetooth headsets.

Symbian may be a pretty OS, but it isn’t very fast, especially when the phone lacks a heaping stack of RAM. Fast connectivity means that essential functions, like Web browsing and sideloading, should work smoothly, but when apps pile up, there could be some lag.

Samsung beat 450 is the best phone with a speaker that is also affordable (priced at around rs.12000+). And, the user interface is great.

If you want an all-around multimedia slider, the Samsung beat 450 is the way to go !

It can also merge itself into other local products using the inbuilt sensors with the complete design similar to synaptics onyx and BenQ-Siemens’s Black box, replaces the complete tradional keypad. Though this concept phone was announced a year back still there are no latest news about it regarding the launch plans etc. Are these concept phones always planned and never really manufactured like the last announced Nokia 888.
